You do manage a kick, and it does land on the drawer. The handle comes off and there's some dangerous sounding creaking noises from the inside. Maybe the lock was loosened?

You manage to wring the drawer open, but one of the beams snaps while you do so. You discard the broken beam and look into the drawer. You see a key and what looks like a throwing knife.
